According to New York Observer, there were couple of major social reasons that spurred the genesis and growth of Meetup.com. First, it was Robert Putman’s book Bowling Alone, in which he talks about the collapse of communities in America. And the second was an event that not only changed the world but changed New York: it was the aftermath of September 11, where strangers cared about greeting, meeting, and talking. They yearned for a return of a community, with common interests, said Mr. Meeker, the founder of Meetup.com. Since 2001, the meetups around the world have flourished: To date, there are over 142,319 meetups, in 196 countries, with close to 16 million members.

In that global spirit of Meetup.com—to bring together people with common interests and ideas and to bring together a community of practitioners and developers—we have a menagerie of meetups covering all things Hadoop, all with fantastic speakers—from Big Data Science to Big Data-Driven Applications, from SQL on Hadoop to YARN Deep Dive.

Everyone can attend, including the reception for greeting, meeting, and networking. As you know, Hadoop Summit in San Jose is approaching fast. Below are all the meetups open for RSVP.
